Some other pics
bathrooms in Japan
OK - by popular request, here are some pics of a Japanese bathroom:
this is the sink area - it is a one-piece installation, from the top of the mirror to the sink cabinet, the sink is quite large, almost kitchen-sink size.
next, we have the bath/shower room, which is separated from the sink area by a frosted glass door.
now, for the toilet area - this is a totally separate room
the pic above shows the controls for the bidet and wash functions
the pic on the left shows the hand-wash built into the tank which runs when the flush is activated
Now, for some other facilities we came across while visiting various shrines and temples:
one site helpfully provided a map of the facility, showing where the Japanese and Western are in the bathroom
this is what a Japanese-style toilet (also known as a 'squatter') looks like
a wall-mounted control
the pictures pretty well tell you what the buttons are for - the orange one is the flush, the one on the right is for warm-air dry

introduction
I have started this blog to talk about my life and about my quilting. I will be going on a trip-of-a-lifetime in one month, and think that this will be a good place to share my experiences.
